The Animal Care Truck (ACT), the mobile veterinary service of the Animal Welfare League NSW, has been embraced by rural pet owners, witnessing substantial attendance in regional towns.
This largest Australian mobile vet service embarked on its inaugural country tour through 63 regional NSW towns over the next three years, starting in Dubbo, Forbes, and Orange in March 2023. The tour includes free health checks, vaccinations, and microchipping for pets.
Stephen Albin, the Animal Welfare League NSW Chief Executive Officer, stated that this three-year country tour across the State is a strategic initiative designed to provide pet care where it’s most required.
“The Animal Welfare League NSW is committed to providing every pet with essential care, such as health checks, microchipping, and vaccinations,” Albin explained. “Microchipping is the most effective way to reunite a lost pet with its owner and alleviate the burden on local council pounds. Timely vaccinations are crucial for a pet’s happiness and health, protecting them from serious diseases.”
Approximately 100 pet owners per town have utilised this service on average.
“The response has been great,” Albin acknowledged, “I want to recognise our staff’s dedication, sometimes in intense heat, and the financial backing from the NSW Government, making this crucial service feasible.”
The AWL NSW’s Branches have been instrumental in aiding pet owners in need during the tour.
The tour recently finished its lengthiest journey yet, visiting the towns of Albury, Deniliquin, Dareton, Broken Hill, Griffith, and Young in the third week of August.
The Animal Care Truck’s next appearances will be at the annual Dog Lovers Show at Sydney Showgrounds in Homebush on August 25-26, followed by a trip from September 11-17 to Mudgee, Lighting Ridge, Burke, and Cobar, to continue assisting animals and their owners.
