Join your local Animal Welfare League NSW Volunteer Branch
Animal Welfare League NSW (AWL NSW) has many volunteer-run branches across NSW, all dedicated to helping animals in their local area. These branches are run by generous and kind animal lovers who are passionate about improving the lives of companion animals and want to make a real difference in their communities.
AWL NSW volunteer branches may participate in:
- Fostering animals through private surrenders or rescuing from local shelters and helping the animals find new homes.
- Creating relationships with local veterinary clinics to develop a discount desexing program for local low income earners.
- Working with local councils and other community groups to address local animal welfare issues.
How you can help
Branch membership offers people a great way to get involved with like-minded individuals and to contribute to promoting responsible pet ownership through publicity, events and information days. A number of branches offer subsidised discount desexing programs to help combat the amount of unwanted animals ending up in shelters across the state. Becoming an AWL NSW member is a wonderful way to contribute and help animals in your local community. If you would like to become an active branch member, please contact your local AWL NSW volunteer branch. AWL NSW branches are run by volunteers and are always in need of new faces to join their dedicated teams.
There are many different opportunities available to help your local branch and these include:
- Donations: Every AWL NSW volunteer branch requires donations to continue their vital work. Your generous donation will help fund subsidised desexing and other community programs. Donations also help our branches operate, and may pay for veterinary costs or help supply our foster carers with food, bedding and other care items.
- Events: AWL NSW volunteer branches participate in local community events to help promote the work of AWL NSW and local branch initiatives. Events are a great way to be involved with your local branch if you are not able to help on a regular basis.
- Fundraise: Help support your local AWL NSW volunteer branch by initiating your own fundraising activities and gift the funds to AWL NSW. Cupcake stalls, fun runs, and donation tins are great ways you can help raise funds for the animals in your community.
- Foster Care: If you have space at your home for an animal in care, why not become a foster carer through your local AWL NSW branch. Fostering is a rewarding experience which gives you the opportunity to see first-hand the difference you’re making and helps more animals find new families.
- Animal Transport: Many animals in care may need to travel to veterinary appointments and branch volunteers may help transport animals from foster homes and shelters. If you have reliable transport and would like to ‘help when you can’, you can offer your help to your local AWL NSW branch.
- Administration: Like other charities and organisations, AWL NSW volunteer branches are required to complete paperwork and hold regular meetings which require minute taking. If you have admin or office experience, you may be able to lend your skill set to your local branch.
- Photography: AWL NSW volunteer branches that are involved with rehoming animals require good photography to help advertise the animals in care, and help them find new homes. If you have a knack for photography or videography, and have a genuine love for animals, your local branch may be able to utilise your skills.
- Social Media: If you have a few hours spare each week, and enjoy using social media, why not help your local AWL NSW branch promote their activities and the animals in care by helping to manage their Facebook page or PetRescue profile.
